Do What You Love, That is What I do…

When I tell people that I am a Professional Organizer the first thing they say is usually, “Boy, do I need to hire you.”

In the beginning I would get a little overwhelmed thinking, “I am going to have to hire a squadron of teams to keep up with the demand.”  Through experience and just the reality of people that didn’t really happen. Inviting someone into your home to show them your trouble areas can be a difficult thing. The reality of hiring a Professional Organizer can be a little bit intimidating and can have come with some fears. I can’t take away all of your fears. But I can give you a little peek into what I do. And a glimpse of who I am, which I think helps calm a little bit of the jitters.

One of the biggest fears is the fear of being judged. Yep, that’s a big one. I understand why people worry about being judged. I feel this one. I am afraid someone is going to randomly open a drawer at my house and scoff, “And she calls herself and organizer?”  But I continuously work on being ok with not being perfect. Are there others that do it different and are more regimented? Yes! My systems work, but I like to try to work with what you have on hand and I like to keep things simple. I do what I do how I do it because I know in the end it makes others feel lighter and in control. I organize because I love to organize, and I know that I am good at it. So go ahead and open my drawers to see my perfectly imperfectness.

It’s hard to invite people into our homes when they are not at their best. After all, our homes are our sanctuaries, and we want them to reflect our personal style and values. But I want to assure you that I organize because it is how my brain works. We all have our areas of expertise. If you saw me try to make dinner or bake a cake or whatever your specialty is you may want to step in and give this girl a hand. That is what I am here to do. Offer a hand where I happen to excel.

Giving up control and all your things. Not always in that order happens to be one of the top three fears I run into. Once we get started it is often one of the last thing my clients are thinking about. However, it is a valid fear. People worry that a professional organizer will take over their home and make decisions for them. You may have worked hard to get to the place you are now. We will work together to find the best system for you, based on where you are at in the space you are in now.

People also fear that I will make them get rid of everything they own. I am known for my love of decluttering, but I want to assure you that my goal is not to throw out your belongings willy-nilly. Instead, I want to help you curate a space that showcases what you love the most.

Deciding what to keep and what to let go of can be difficult, but it’s a process that can be very liberating. When you declutter, you’re not just getting rid of physical objects. You’re also letting go of the emotional baggage that those objects may be carrying.

Hiring a professional organizer can be an investment, but it is one that is often well worth it. When you hire a professional organizer, you are not just paying for their expertise, you are also paying for your time and peace of mind.  Sugar & Space can help you declutter, organize, and create a space that works for you. They can also teach you the skills and systems you need to maintain your organization over the long term.
